A PROGRAM OF THE FEDERATION OF FOSTER FAMILIES OF NOVA SCOTIA
PHILOSOPHY:
In acknowledging the importance of the role of birth and adopted children of foster parents in providing foster children with a healthy home environment, and in acknowledging that birth and adoptive children in foster homes must be very willing and able to adapt to an ever-changing home environment, the Federation of Foster Families of Nova Scotia has established a bursary program for these children of foster parents. This is designed to be an award of encouragement and should not be considered to be in lieu of financial support from any other agency or organization.
AMOUNT OF BURSARY:
Two bursaries will be awarded per year. The amount will be commensurate with the amount of yearly interest accrued.
WHO MAY APPLY:
A birth or adopted child of foster parents who have been fostering for a minimum of five years. The applicant must be enrolled in an educational program to further his/her skills.
APPLICATION PERIOD:
Applications are received by the Federation office in Halifax throughout the year. Application deadline each year will be August 15 and will be awarded in the Fall.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
An application form may be obtained from your local child welfare agency or from the Federation Office in Halifax.
Application forms must be accompanied by:
- a letter of confirmation showing that the applicant is enrolled in an educational program.

- a letter of recommendation from the Foster Care Coordinator for your parent(s)
- a short written or taped essay describing why you have chosen to enter this particular educational program (200 words maximum length)
- a transcript of last set of grades - although these will not be the deciding factor in choosing the recipient of the bursary.

All completed applications will be brought before a three member committee, one of whom will be a representative of the Federation's Board of Directors. Two other members, chosen from the community at large, will be named on an annual basis.
